The purpose of the awards:

HOPE Africa acknowledges and recognises that parishes within the Anglican Church of Southern Africa have been and are currently implementing projects that contribute to the social development of their communities. By recognising and awarding a parish it not only encourages them but further seeks to highlight the developmental leadership role that the Church plays in the development of communities.

The objectives of the awards are to:

  • Give recognition to parishes that are involved in outreach programmes that build bridges within their local communities.
  • Motivate parishes to enhance their social outreach programmes
  • Highlight and  promote the sharing of lessons learned and challenges  amongst and between parishes
  • Improve the profile and publicize good practices within the Anglican Church of Southern Africa
  • Promote commitment in seeking to transform and build the capacity of the Anglican Church

Eligibility Criteria: Any parish within the Anglican Church of Southern Africa can enter by sending the typewritten story of its community projects to HOPE Africa. The deadline for all stories is further extended to 31st of May 2010.
Story Details:

  1. Name of story; 
  2. Diocese;
  3. Location in the Diocese i.e. Archdeaconry
  4. Parish
  5. Contact person
  6. How the project is sustained financially
  7. Rural/ urban project

Selection Criteria
The story will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
Creativity / Innovativeness
Social Impact: What development idea is this story addressing?

 Entry Categories:

  • Education and Training
  • Children and OVC
  • HIV and AIDS
  • Agricultural Projects
  • Environmental Sustainability
  • Youth Development
  • Other

Prizes: A parish with a winning story in each category will be awarded R10 000 towards strengthening its outreach ministry. A possible Provincial visit will be conducted for the prize to be handed over by the leadership of Anglican Church of Southern Africa and HOPE Africa.

In addition the top 50 stories received will be published on the ACSA and HOPE AFRICA websites as well as profiled in the Southern Anglican throughout 2010.

Rules

  • Entries must be in any language spoken in the Southern Africa region and typewritten
  • Entries must be original, and previously unpublished
  • Entries will not be returned. Please keep a copy of your story
  • Please specify which category you are entering for
  • Copyright of each entry remains with the author, but the author agrees as a condition of entry that HOPE Africa will have the unrestricted right to publish winning and highly recommended stories on the HOPE Africa website (in any format, including print, audio and digital)
  • The judge's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • Entry indicates acceptance of all the rules.
  • Entries that fail to comply with these entry requirements will be disqualified.
  • Winners will be notified in writing by September 30st, 2010
  • The entry should be submitted via email to hopeaward@hopeafrica.org.za , by post to Attention: HOPE Africa Awards, PO BOX 830 Cape Town 8000. Please do not fax entries.
  • The story should not be more than 1000 words
